Residential systems must be 10 kW AC or smaller, and Georgia Power says the program is currently open on a first come, first served basis until renewable capacity reaches 0.2 percent of its prior year peak demand. Schedule RNR 11 is available in Georgia Power's service area, so homes served by Jefferson Energy Cooperative or Planters EMC should ask their cooperative for its own solar terms.
The Construction Division of the Augusta Planning and Development Department reviews plans and issues permits, and the Residential Permitting Division at 1803 Marvin Griffin Road takes residential applications in person, by email or online through the CityView Portal. Augusta's permit application lists solar among electrical contractor work, and work in a flood zone or historic district needs a Flood Permit or a Certificate of Appropriateness through Zoning before a permit can be issued.
The federal residential clean energy credit, section 25D, ended for home solar expenditures made after December 31, 2025, under the law signed July 4, 2025. The IRS treats the expenditure as made when installation is completed, so a system completed in 2026 does not qualify even if it was paid for earlier.
